So far, tunes like ‘Soco’, ‘Assurance’, ‘Issa Goal’, ‘Legbegbe’ etc have been banging in the first half of the year. Good thing is that there is more music to come in the remaining half of 2018.
With this in mind we list out 6 albums you should clear your playlist and fix your speakers to jam.
Davido
It’s been 6 years since the Sony Music act released his critically acclaimed debut album ‘Omo Baba Olowo’. Davido has been telling us about the release of his sophomore album and it’s taking forever. After serving an unsatisfactory EP in 2016, the DMW boss is more ready than ever before to drop his highly anticipated sophomore music project. He has said that the LP would be available in September, nonetheless an OBO album should be out before the year spans out.
Wizkid
Another amazing body of work to look out for is from Ayodeji Balogun. After his famous Afro Republik concert in London Wizkid affirmed that he would be dropping an album on us. He went further to say it would be Wizkid 100% no features. The name of the project is dubbed ‘Made In Lagos’ a year after his Sony backed SFTOS album. Hopefully the Starboy comes through with this one.
Mayorkun
Since signing on to Davido Music Worldwide (DMW), Mayowa Adewale better known as Mayorkun has been nothing short of stellar. He has progressed from winning Headies Awards ‘Rookie of the Year’ to being the ‘Next Rated’ act and the young champ is still gunning for more glory. Albeit, Mayorkun has been giving out hints on the work progress of his debut album probably titled ‘Mayor of Lagos’. After a successful EP release from his label mate Dremo, Mayorkun is up next in line.
Kizz Daniel
It’s been two long years since Kizz Daniel released his Headies Awards ‘Best Pop/R&B Album’ winner ‘New Era’. Aside making good music Kizz Daniel has been in the news over his legal battle with his erstwhile record label G-Worldwide since he parted ways with them. Free from his former handlers, Oluwatobiloba Daniel Anidugbe has been gracing many collaborations. More music would be coming from his staples as he gears up to release another LP. The album is titled ‘No Bad Songz’ with the album cover art already out. It is expected between August & September.
Tekno
It’s funny how an artiste as big as Tekno has no album or EP to his name yet. The TripleMG star has been more keen on releasing badass singles. However, it seems Tekno is ready to give us more with an album this year. No official title, no cover art, no tracklist yet but it’s believed that before 2018 closes we would have a Tekno album on our laps.
MI Abaga & Co.
A few days ago Chocolate City boss, MI Abaga made an announcement he would executive produce three albums set for release in August. One from Loose Kanon & A-Q, another from Blaqbonez and lastly something from himself. Earlier in the year MI came through with a playlist he titled ‘Rendezvous’ but that was just an appetizer as something stronger is on the way. MI Abaga boldly states that he would be shutting down the hip hop convo with these projects in August.
Notable mention:
Mavin Records star Reekado Banks has notified fans about his plans to put out an EP in October. Something we should all look out for
